After Exmouth/Ningaloo Reef I headed 650km inland to the Karijini Eco Resort – in the Karijini National Park. I’d heard pretty good things. It was a long way to go, however – a 1,350km round trip into the place and back out again to the coast.
But… it’s special I’d heard. I think it was. The Australian outback has some very amazing gorges. Katherine Gorge might be the most well known and spectacular. Sadly, I couldn’t fit that in to my plans. But Karijini fitted perfectly.
Let me just put some photos and a vid up. They can speak far more eloquently than me.
(I did ask these young ladies permission to photograph them…)

I worry, as I do, that my crap photos don’t showcase this place. It was beautiful, a little spiritual and very peaceful.
For me… the place was cursed. Or I was.
I must have stirred up the ghost of a long lost owner of the land. I camped, and for some reason it just didn’t work. The dust was relentless (fine, red and everywhere). There were a lot of dingos – lots of howling and sniffing around at night. Maybe I was a little down anyway – lots of long, long days driving.
And this place was not terribly social. It was a resort, so people kept to themselves. That’s tough sometimes.
Added to this, I put my awning out (with the orange lights) and then drove into a tree moving it. The awning is ruined – I needed to buy a new one.
I lost my ear pods. I found them after a while but in doing so lost one of the electronic keys to the truck.
So all sorts of stuff was conspiring to play with my head.
Generally, I guess, I was just in a filthy mood – mostly of my own making. And maybe a good lesson on self-management for the future. I need to be far more conscious of what I can and can’t do – especially around long drives.
I should add that being alone is also not the easiest thing, when things get just a little rough. Another good lesson to keep in mind in the future.
But… forget me and my issues. Karijini was an amazing place to visit, and visually I can’t speak more highly about the place.
