I hula hoop. And I love it!!!
You see, fat old blokes aren’t supposed to dance, enjoy music, or otherwise do stuff that old people shouldn’t do – stuff that I did when I was young and cool.
I was very reluctant to tell people… But in this new mindset of ‘who gives a fuck what people think’ I don’t care. I love it, it’s good for me, its exercise – and it’s really good for my mental health. It ticks every box.
And… it’s a curiosity. I am travelling alone. When I get my hoop out people come and chat. They want a turn. It breaks the ice.
Yesterday I did 90 minutes. I was buggered afterwards. So physically it’s fantastic – for cardio, for core and for the whole body. But mentally it is fantastic. I put airpods in, I put on a playlist I love, I shut my eyes and I just dance…. I dance non-stop. I lose myself in the music and all of the issues and the stress just fades away.
It connects to what is so critical in my life right now. To what keeps me balanced and centred. To what saves me every day. To what I love…
I try to the hoop every day… It is sooooooo good.
I hope I can hoop around the world – at some impressive sites. That’s a plan. But ultimately hooping is for me. I’ll do it where I want, to ensure my connections stay strong.
